This is my new favorite gadget in my home. I was actually concerned that this would be too quiet, but it turned out to be the perfect amount of 'white noise' to lull me to sleep. Just to put it into perspective, though, this unit is much larger than my old Honeywell air purifier yet much less noisy. I would say that the Honeywell was more vibrational noise, and annoying enough to make it difficult to hear the TV, whereas the Fellowes is barely noticeable but enough to block out distracting noises that keep me from sleeping (like my neighbors in the apartment next door). The air quality in my room has been great since the machine has been running. Pollen has been crazy high lately, but I have not had any problems to speak of. As for cleaning/changing the filter, it is too early for me to comment on this since I haven't had it that long. I will now try very hard to think of something negative (which, there isn't much at all). For some reason, my cat likes to jump... Previous reviewers have very effectively described the ease of set-up for this Air Purifier. It is, indeed, very easy to set-up. I have many dogs, many allergies, and a big, old, dusty house. This is the best air-purifier that I have ever owned. It removes pet dander, fine particles of dust ( especially plaster dust, from those old walls), and, from the appearance of the filers, practically everything else from the air. We have wood stoves in our house, which create many fine, black, soot particles. This machine removes all of those. It is easy to run, offering several speed levels. My eyes used to burn each evening as I sat in a room with one of the stoves burning. Now, it is as if there is no wood stove in the room. My eyes stopped burning and watering, and I stopped coughing each morning ( I don't smoke, but before this filter arrived, I certainly sounded like a smoke, with my early morning"typical" smoker's cough.). The noise it produces is similar to a fan on a low setting, kind of a white noise so to speak. The filters are reasonably priced if you find them on sale-they are currently on sale for 29.99 (reg 39.99) & I replace them every 6 months. The carbon pre filter is much cheaper when bought from your local home improvement store, they sell sheets of carbon that you can cut to fit. I have a cat in my small apartment so I use it to clean the air of cat litter dust and dander... because of the litter dust, I've already had to replace both the pre- and HEPA filter way before their time, but I guess that just means it's working. The pre-filter can can also be vacuumed or shaken out to clear the dust. The noise is minimal, but I'm used to having fans running in my room already... I would definitely recommend the Hunter 30057 as a cheap HEPA purifier. Also note that it takes a while for the initial plastic smell of the parts to fade, several weeks in my case. This product is petty impressive in that, as soon as I turn it ON there seemed to be a magical "no smell" environment (at least when I sit on the drivers seat). So I must say that the product works very well. The issue came when I used it for my 30 minutes commute back and forth from work and saw that I had a persistent sore throat and throat irritation in the evening. I then read about this online and found that a side effect of a product like this that releases a lot of ozone, is that it can cause throat irritation. So I have decided to keep it and use it only when its really required - I cannot keep it ON all the time in my car. So in short, while this product does its work petty well, people who may be sensitive to sore throat and throat dryness etc may need to think twice before getting it. It was obvious that the previous owner was a smoke. Although the smell was not overbearing (probably kept the window open while smoking), it was still there. My first (and cheapest) attempt at removing the smell was to place 2 small bowls of vinegar in the car while I was not using it. This helped for a short period of time, but the smell would slowly creep back in after a little while. My second (and most expensive) attempt was to use the Gone Smoke "fogger" product that I had bought on Amazon. I set up two of these cans and ran my air conditioner on full blast and set it to circulate the air internally for a few minutes (per the instructions). I came out the next morning and found that the smoke smell was gone...but seemed to be more covered up than destroyed. There was a faint smell but I just couldn't put my finger on it.
